🦅📣 Update! Weddington Town Council Rejects Toll Brothers “Deal Lake”! 

On Monday, May 12, 2025, Weddington Town Council voted to deny Toll Brothers' "Deal Lake" conditional zoning application for 62 homes on Hwy 84/Weddington Road. 

The vote was a 2–2 split, with Mayor Bell casting the tie-breaking vote to deny the proposal.

In favor: Council Members Jeff Perryman and Brannon Howie

Opposed: Council Member Darcey Ladner and Mayor Pro Tem Tom Smith 

Thank you to Council Members Ladner and Smith, along with Mayor Bell, for standing together to protect and preserve one of Weddington’s most environmentally sensitive areas, home to bald eagles and a rich diversity of wildlife that rely on the Aero Plantation's lakes and surrounding habitat. 

A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to support us. With over 6,000 petition signatures, strong voices at town meetings, tons of shares online in coordinated social media groups, and hundreds of emails sent to the Planning Board and Town Council against "Deal Lake," your efforts really made a difference. And a special shoutout to our neighbors in nearby municipalities, your support means the world to us.

Our voices were heard! 

What's next? According to Weddington’s Unified Development Ordinance, a developer may submit a new plan or application after one year. We’ll continue to closely monitor Toll Brothers, and we will also be prepared in case a new developer comes forward.

We envision a beautiful and environmentally responsible development on the Deal farm in the future and are more than willing to support efforts to help make that vision a reality.
