Time sensitive, please email today!

Weddington Neighbors

We've been informed that a town council member will not be attending the upcoming Toll Brothers "Deal Lake" Public Hearing, scheduled on April 14, 7:00 pm, due to a prior commitment. This creates a very serious situation, as we are hearing “Deal Lake” could be APPROVED with a 2-1 vote! Town council consists of 5 members including the mayor who only votes if there is a tie.

Additionally, our request to move the public hearing to a larger venue, Weddington High School, was ignored. Town Planner Greg Gordos has confirmed that the hearing will take place at Weddington Town Hall.

Both the Town Council and town staff have been made aware to expect a large turnout of concerned Weddington citizens.

We need your help! The agenda isn’t official yet. We are advocating to get this public hearing venue and date moved.

We need everyone to EMAIL the following information to the town council now!

1. Ask that the public hearing be moved to May 12, or when all town council members can attend and that the application be complete.

2. Request that the Town Council hold the "Deal Lake" public hearing at Weddington High School to accommodate the anticipated larger crowd.

3. State you are OPPOSED to "Deal Lake" and provide a reason why; some concerns you can provide are: (don’t copy and paste, use your own voice)
Increased traffic congestion and overcrowding of schools, causing a public health and safety issue.

  • Preserve environmentally sensitive land areas, protecting tree canopy and diverse wildlife along Mundys Run, including federally protected bald eagles with two eaglets in nest and the tri-colored bats, soon to be placed on the endangered species list.
  • Concerns for uncontrolled stormwater runoff leading to erosion and water pollution into streams and lakes.
  • Impact on property values
  • All Toll Brothers developments in Weddington are having major issues at the moment with a mix of severe uncontrolled stormwater runoff and ongoing quality issues, including Bromley, Enclave at Baxley and Luna, with massive clearcutting of lands.
  • Toll Brothers application is not complete missing several items, therefore it should not be scheduled for a public hearing until it is.

Deal Lake Update & Concerns:

A proposed development of 62 homes on one-acre lots is planned adjacent to Aero Plantation and Weddington Hills along Hwy 84. Major concerns include the absence of a viable stormwater and septic plan. Septic plans remain incomplete; individual lots have not been perc tested. The proposal includes alternative aerobic drip septic systems in unsuitable soils, alongside clustered on- and off-site septic systems near neighbors' wells. At Toll Brothers second community meeting they promised to change to one acre on-lot conventional septic systems. This new plan is not what they promised. How can we trust this plan is viable with so many unknowns?

Key issues include:

  • Uncontrolled stormwater and silt runoff polluting nearby creeks and lakes
Clear-cutting of tree canopy and loss of scenic views along highway corridors
Increased air, noise, and light pollution
  • Rising traffic congestion and strain on schools, impacting public health and safety
Environmental threats to local wildlife, including protected species such as bald eagles and tri-color bats, which have been observed on the Deal property near Aero Plantation’s lake
  • Weddington town council is sworn to protect our community’s public health, safety and welfare. These concerns highlight significant risks to the community’s well-being, environment, and quality of life.
  • The Rea Road extension and Hwy 84 widening will bring significant changes to our area, increasing road noise and disrupting our community. Soon, we will face massive road construction and development along Hwy 84, with up to 250 new homes projected.
  • Toll Brothers has a poor track record in Weddington and should not be approved for any further developments. While we recognize that growth and infrastructure changes are inevitable, we expect the Town of Weddington to prioritize responsible developers who seek to preserve our community—not diminish it.
  • We are all neighbors, we must unite together to protect and preserve our beautiful community.
  • Please show up and speak up at the Toll Brothers “Deal Lake” public hearing. If the date changes, we will keep you posted.
