We have had our potbelly pig Gloria for a year and 4 months with only positive reactions. Many people and children have stopped to see her. At one point a woman had brought her husband, an officer to see her. She is indoor and outdoor. Friendly, quiet and will definitely brighten the day. It was only recently a single call was placed to animal control. The day animal control arrived I was informed that the ordinance for pet pigs is listed as livestock or swine. As the USDA does not regulate pigs used as a meat source or for fiber. Mini pigs are bred specifically for family companionship. They are not a meat source. They are not the common barn hog or production hog bred for consumption. We are asking as we go to our city council in Springfield, Mo. to change the ordinance and allow potbelly pigs to be allowed for family pets. As potbelly pigs are intelligent, harness trainable and potty trained as a dog would be. They make great therapy and emotional support animals. And can be trained to do commands/tricks.
