University of Warwick - Provide Non-Gendered Toilet Blocks

The Issue

We’re calling on the University of Warwick to provide a minimum of one non-gendered toilet block in each of its university buildings.

Despite repeated requests for non-gendered facilities in the past, non-binary gendered individuals are still currently forced to choose between using male and female gendered toilet blocks in university buildings. Neither of these options are acceptable, and can result in extreme anxiety and harassment. No one should have to fear violence or harassment as a result of entering university toilet facilities.

Alongside the requirements of non-binary gendered individuals, there are a number of other reasons why non-gendered facilities are of benefit to the university community. Gender non-conforming individuals often face severe harassment within gendered spaces, an issue also faced by transitioning trans people. Those with differently gendered enablers or carers would also benefit significantly from such facilities, as well as parents with young children.

A number of other universities have already taken the step of providing non-gendered toilet facilities on their campuses, including Nottingham University and Northampton University. It's time for Warwick to do the same.
