Stop University of South Florida from Denying Refunds for Housing Because of Covid-19
The Issue
As we all know, COVID-19 has cause a huge financial strain on working adults and college students alike. With plenty losing jobs due to their jobs closing and students being forced to leave their campus zone and in turn losing their jobs as well.
The University of South Florida released an email to their students on June 10th with an attached addendum about how housing will be handled in such times as well as new rules and policies. One of which states "The Student acknowledges the Student will not be eligible for a refund of housing rental rates and fee if Residence Halls close, access is restricted during the term, or if the length of Agreement is adjusted."
I believe this is extremely unfair to the students. The university is only giving us 3 weeks to figure out whether we want to opt in or out for the full year. We do not even get the option to opt out for just Fall 2020.
I am hoping to gain enough signatures that will hopefully convince the university to change this rule. We, as young students that are trying to navigate through this time, can't afford to lose thousands of dollars for housing we don't even know if we will get because of the new spikes that have erupted in Florida.
