Some people think that with guidance from environmental experts on the faculty, USF can develop parts of the preserve in a sustainable way. The fact is, USF President, Steven Currall blindsided these experts when he approved the RFI. No advice was asked and no warning was given. That’s because there is no way to develop any part of the preserve without environmental consequences and USF leadership know this which is why they went behind the backs of the experts.

The good news is our letter and phone campaigns are working! Currall’s office at one point last week was forced to stop answering phone calls! However, they are still refusing to rescind the RFI and until they do, we must keep up the pressure.

The Florida Wildlife Corridor Act recently passed by state legislature create incentives for conservation and sustainable development while sustaining and conserving the green infrastructure that is the foundation of Florida’s economy and quality of life. This bill had unanimous bipartisan support and represents the will of the people in this state. The preserve is a part of Florida’s Wildlife Corridor and its time USF recognized its importance for conservation.

Keep reaching out to USF President Currall (president@usf.edu, 813-974-2791) and the Board of Trustees (board@usf.edu, 813-974-6442). Also check out www.saveusfforestpreserve.com for more info.
