Over the past week, UR Football coach Mike Maynard was caught commenting insensitive remarks regarding the use of explosives that created an unsafe environment for innocent civilian protesters in response to the deaths of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and all the lives lost at the hands of police brutality. His reaction which in the eyes of many can be seen as a dismissal of the tragedy of the forceful suppression of a peaceful protest in order to marvel at the weapons is troublesome for students, alumni, and the greater University community cannot tolerate to any extent. This petition urges the relevant authorities on campus to ask for his resignation/terminate his contract as head coach of the UR Football team. In this time of crisis, we must not condone grave errors in judgement like this especially when these errors come from a person who serves in a student support capacity for athletes.
