Stop Ann Coulter from coming to OU

The Issue

The OU chapter of TPUSA recently announced their plans to have Ann Coulter speak on campus on November 5th. They are doing so using funding from the Student Government Association, and it will most definitely involved either OUPD or armed security.

Ann Coulter has a history of being against LGBTQ+ rights. She has a history of using racially charged language around immigration and the practice of Islam. She has long been a proponent of the idea of white genocide, a racist conspiracy theory. She also argues frequently that colleges discriminate against white applicants and students while she belittles historical oppression and upholds the model minority myth.

Allowing her to come on campus flies in the face of everything OU stands for. OU claims to be making measures to be more accepting of LGBTQ+ and minority students, but Ann Coulter actively campaigns against those same measures (as evidenced by her last visit to a campus).

Additionally, the involvement of armed security (be they OUPD or private) is potentially distressing to many students and has the capacity for escalating any protests. Ann Coulter also took measures to downplay the dangers of COVID-19. TPUSA has also spoken out against masks, and the OU chapter has been spotted on campus frequently without masks.

We fail to see how allowing Ann Coulter fits OU's goals. Not only is she dead-set against OU's outreach to LGBTQ+ and minority populations, but a speech by her in a room organized by TPUSA is almost certainly not going to fit OU's COVID-19 guidelines.
