Keep “Walkabout Jesus” away from UNA

Keep “Walkabout Jesus” away from UNA
The Issue
“Walkabout Jesus” is a hate group that has been terrorizing UNA students for a while. They are pretending to preach the gospel- but go against everything The Bible stands for. They stand at various places on campus including the amphitheater, in front of the stone lodge, and by the library- which disrupts many students’ days.
They loudly call students whores, the antichrist, and many other names. They condemn these students to Hell and judge them on sins they don’t even know if they have committed. They hold up signs that include things such as aborted fetuses- something that could be triggering to many.
If the above information isn’t enough, it should be noted that Daniel Wayne Rusk- one of the “preachers”- was arrested in June of 2020 for 2nd degree stalking. (proof is found here: http://jailed.info/rusk-daniel-wayne/madison-county-al/557038/ Granted, I don’t know if he was convicted, but being arrested for it speaks a lot to his character. Since his arrest he has been at UNA, yelling at students to stop sinning- advice he should be taking himself.
On top of this, they post videos of UNA students without their permission to their YouTube channel. Here’s one of their videos, which also shows what a perverted, vile, disgusting man “Brother Daniel” is: https://youtu.be/aUVCRYBjUtY
According to campus police and an email from the Vice President of Student Affairs- nothing can be done because it’s a public place and they have a right to free speech. However, listen to this quote from the aforementioned email.
“To be clear, the First Amendment does not protect behavior on campus that crosses the line into targeted harassment or threats, or that creates a pervasively hostile environment.”
I’m not a lawyer, but I would think that what they do counts as targeted harassment- if not sexual harassment due to Rusk’s treatment of women on campus. They pick on specific students to call them out on various features... such as what they are wearing. Many feel threatened by this behavior- I’ve even heard of some not wanting to leave their dorms or calling out of class out of fear of the group. They inarguably create a hostile environment. They are crossing the line, and have been for awhile. This is a problem that needs to be taken care of.
There are prospective students touring the campus every day. I can't imagine what a bad name UNA is getting from this hateful group. If they were here when I toured I certainly wouldn't have came. UNA refuses to do anything out of fear of a lawsuit. It's nice to know we are paying tuition to a university that puts fear of losing money over the safety of students.
I don’t know if this petition will get anything done, but I hope and pray it does. If it doesn’t, I implore my fellow students not to give them what they so desperately want: attention. They are trying to get a reaction out of us and the less we give back to them, the less likely it is they’ll keep coming back. I, too, want to give them a piece of my mind- and admittedly have in the past. However, I think we should do anything to get them off of campus... and ignoring them could be in the best interest of everyone in the end.
Please share this with UNA students, parents, faculty, and staff- or even people outside of UNA. It may not make a difference, but at least we’ll all know that we tried our best.
Blessings,
K. P. W
UPDATE:
After some constructive (and some non-constructive) criticism, I wanna make a few things clear: I am in full support of freedom of speech, but not when it crosses into harassment. For clarification, I am not going to take any physically violent action, as I have been accused of doing so. I am only asking UNA to take on the responsibility of further protecting its students. Violence and verbal assault is not the answer, so please show the group the kindness they do not show us until this is taken care of- and even if it is not. This is just a petition. The university has a right to ignore it just as much as I have a right to make it. My main reason for doing so is so I can't say I didn't try. I can't force the university to take action. I'm not a judge and can't decide for them or anyone else what is and is not a violation. I can simply state my opinion and let my voice be heard.
