Final Examination to Take Place At-Home

Final Examination to Take Place At-Home
The Issue
Dear UNYT Administration,
Due to the virus still being a great public health concern and having no cure been found yet, the indoors examination would be a high-risk, low-reward situation. Having this in mind, we the students are signing a request towards our Administration, in full belief that our university, is a body that cares about its students and has their best interest in mind.
Admittedly, we do know that the economic stature of our University allows for it to be one of the few academic institutions capable of holding the exams online, and we are appreciative of that. The infrastructure and the technology this University has facilitated makes it able to stand strong in the face of such a crisis.
In addition to our primary concern of not putting to risk healthy individuals, another important point should be made about the students who have also conceded that this would be detrimental to their easily susceptible health. Another main problem would be student housing. Many of our students are not residents in Tirana, which has caused a considerable amount of them to leave to their respective cities, in some cases even Albania. A few of them have even terminated their housing contracts. The individual and social responsibility of managing one's life around the Covid-19 will thus bundle with the burden of having to find housing, which at best would cause logistical struggles, but at worst can engender physical and psychological damage.
Lastly, doing this will undoubtedly put both parties at risk. As some of the lockdown measures are being lifted, and the confinement of mobility is being relaxed, we have yet to see the virus' scope of damage, especially because now the responsibility becomes individual. And as much as we want to promote social and health awareness by being careful, this is not a case of an attempt to mitigate the risk. This is a case to protect at all costs our most valuable, if not the only fundamentally meaningful asset that we possess. In order to preserve the positive results we all as students, families, and you as an institution have attained, we wish our concerns illustrated in this petition are seriously taken under advisement until the resolution of this issue.
Having chosen to sign this petition, we plead our academic honesty and integrity, hoping in a reciprocal relationship with our University and the values it is built upon.
Sincerely,
UNYT STUDENTS
