As it is, tuition at the University of Maryland is expensive. Out of state tuition costs roughly $30,000 a year and it is only increasing. Raising the price to attend the University of Maryland for only the majors in the computer science program, the engineering and the business school is a bad business practice and is hypocritical to the goal of attracting the best and the brightest. The rising cost itself is a deterrent for people looking to attend the University and raising the tuition for just a select group of majors is a good way of getting some bad publicity. I love this school and all of the opportunities afforded to me by attending but it seems extremely unfair that because I have a certain major, I have to pay more than the average student and I am sure many others in my position feel the same way. I understand that it costs more per student in these programs but we have to come up with better ways of raising the money to acquire new faculty and increasing course sections. Please sign this petition to help President Loh and those voting on the tuition hikes see how unreasonable the tuition increase is and to let them know that we deserve the right to be included in this process.
