The University of Hartford athletics department has decided to eliminate our Spirit Program for the entire 2020-2021 season. Due to COVID-19, the school wants to limit the number of attendees at sporting events. We understand their efforts to keep students safe during this school year, however, the fact that our team is being considered as “attendees” and not hard working athletes is disappointing and disrespectful. We were notified about the cancellation of our season without any warning and without any conversation about alternative solutions. No other sports team on campus has had their season cancelled, so our Spirit teams should also be allowed to continue to practice, perform, and compete as well.
