We, the undersigned, are outraged at the actions and lack of action by the University of Glasgow on several areas.

•  Lack of Communication regarding accommodation,
• Lack of Preparation to deal with the increased numbers of those applying for accommodation,
•  Lack of Support and Advice regarding registration and enrolment,
• Lack of accountability for guaranteeing accommodation and failing to provide clear aid.

Students who were offered one accommodation have been moved to others, more expensive, with no reason and little communication. There are students who are still waiting to hear about accommodation with the start of moving a little over two weeks away. Others have been placed into private accommodation out of Glasgow and with a higher cost of travel.

For many, this is their first time away from home and the undue stress instigated by the University of Glasgow is, and will continually affect the mental wellbeing of those involved. The lack of preparation of the university to successfully ensure there are enough spaces to house these students will cause great distress to those required to find more money for expensive accommodation, and to travel outside of the city of Glasgow.

Therefore we request an urgent response from the Student Representative Council and the University to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students affected and what support, both emotionally and financially , will be available to the students.

Response may involve actions such as helping with financial aid to cover the travel costs or arranging university travel; aiding with the extra costs of more expensive housing; finding student housing within a reasonable distance of the university for shared flats and apologising for the current inadequate response. These suggestions are not exhaustive.
