Keep the UCF Sport and Exercise Science program at the South Lake campus
The Issue
The news that the UCF Sport and Exercise Science program would be closing at the South Lake campus in Clermont, Florida this coming spring, the campus where the program was started, was devastating for those students of us that attend there. For many of us, the Sport and Exercise Science program that's offered in its entirety at the South Lake campus is the only reason many of us can and do attend UCF at all. For those that have spent any time there, we may have started for the proximity, but we've all stayed because of the master quality of instruction, and an exceptional staff of instructors that far surpass anything I've ever experienced in academics in regards to knowledge base, experience, and a genuine desire to aid and equip students to reach and achieve their dreams by challenging us to do and be our best, to think for ourselves, and to effectively communicate our knowledge, ideas, and passions. I personally moved across the country, from a small town in Oregon, for the South Lake campus and its exceptional teaching staff. I had plenty of other options closer to home, with better financial aid available but I chose UCF for its South Lake campus and the staff there, and would not and will not attend UCF otherwise. The instructors and advising staff at UCF South Lake positively impact the lives of its students on a deeper level both in and out of the classroom, have a strong and supported presence in the Clermont community, and are sending more confident students, graduates and leaders into the world every year. To take away this program, this campus, and these instructors would be an enormous travesty, and would destroy the best part of the University of Central Florida. Please, President Hitt, don't take away what has become an academic home away from home, don't take away our mentors and our friends.
