Dear Defenders of Academic Freedom at UCT,
On the 30th March, the UCT Council concluded that there would be severe ramifications in pushing through this radical anti-Israel boycott agenda. Therefore, they rejected the motion, sending it back to the Senate, instructing them to consider the repercussions that such an action would have upon the entire institution.
This is a win for us, however, it is not yet over!
On the 10th May 2019, the Senate will be gathering to discuss this motion in more depth, which will be followed by a vote.
We will continue to show why this boycott will erode academic freedom, damage UCT’s international reputation and standing, and hurt ordinary students and academics on campus. However, we need your help.
Do you know any UCT Senate members? http://www.uct.ac.za/main/about/governance/senate.
If so, please fill in this Google Form: https://forms.gle/fzU5BXCp9LKHq4SM9 (Your information will be treated as confidential and not shared with any 3rd parties).
The UCT Council rejection of the Israel boycott is a small victory – but your support is still needed.
Thank you for your continued support.
