Tuition Refund for UCSD Students Forced Online

Tuition Refund for UCSD Students Forced Online
The Issue
UC San Diego admitted roughly 53,000 new undergraduate students for the 2021-2022 school year. This is an approx. 70% increase in the current undergraduate population in just one year! Students are struggling to find housing for many reasons: 2nd year housing is no longer guaranteed, triple rooms are no more, and off-campus housing is extremely competitive and expensive. With this influx of new students, the problem will be unprecedently amplified. Even non-students in San Diego will be negatively impacted by this increase in housing competition.
Even if UC San Diego is able to accomodate this many students in the future, its current paying students are left grossly unaccomodated. UCSD's solution is that many, many students who are excited to return in-person after a difficult year will be forced back online because they cannot secure housing close enough to campus. UC San Diego is being irresponsible, dishonest, and borderline criminal with this decision, especially considering the toll it will take on student mental health and finances. The Univesity is being trusted with our tuition money to accomodate us as students. Instead, it is using our funds to pursue lofty ambitions that won't ever benefit current students.
Our solution: 1.) Require UC San Diego to compensate for its selfishness by offering tuition and housing refunds to students who do not want to attend under these circumstances! 2.) Require UC San Diego to offer 50% or more tuition reductions to students forced back online due to housing unavailability! 3.) Require UC San Diego to provide ALL students with a 15% tuition reduction in compensation for its dishonest and irresponsible choice! It can afford this...online accomodations cost the school less.
We need FAR MORE transparency from our administrators in the future. Let's force UC San Diego to keep its student body's best interest in mind!
