Stop UC's Forever Tuition Hike

Stop UC's Forever Tuition Hike
The Issue
The UC Board of Regents is taking up a discussion item to discuss the implementation of a five-year plan to increase systemwide fees on an annual basis at all nine campuses with undergraduate students. This includes an increase to resident tuition, student services fee, and non-resident supplemental tuition. The cohort model will increase tuition for every new incoming freshman class. By 2026-2027, tuition for non-residents will have increased $8,700 for non-resident students and $2,500 for California residents.
Below are THREE reasons the UC should not establish a #ForeverHike:
- Tuition Increases DO NOT positively impact low-income students
- It's not equitable: Non-Resident students will bear the brunt of tuition increases with minimal support
- Increases Students Vulnerability: Many students fall through the cracks of UC's residence policy every year. This proposal unfairly increases their financial burden and difficulty to access the UC.
