A call for institutional change
The Issue
The world changed in June after the of George Floyd went viral. The Black Lives Matter movement was resurged with global protesters and an urgent call for action.
The University of Lincoln as well as the Students Union took the stance of allyship and stood with the Black community. Unfortunately, just saying you don't support racist rhetoric isn't enough. Racisms new face hides in systems and institutions which prohibit black people and other people of colour from advancing further within employment, education and more.
LIBCO has spent weeks researching and composing a document that intends to bridge the gap between intention and action. During the very monumental protests, we saw many allies stand with the black community and help us with our hurt. We call upon everyone affected by systemic racism to help us affect change in our institution, this extends itself to our allies. Be on the right side of history.
"To bring about change, you must not be afraid to take the first step. We will fail when we fail to try."Rosa Parks
