On January 31st 2024 a liacencing agreement between Tiktok and Universal Music Group (UMG ) ended. UMG left a scathing post on X calling out Tiktok making blatantly false accusations against them regarding payment of royalties and all songs from artists under UMG are either removed or muted as of February 1. Some videos even have the voices off the creator muted.This  includes several popular artists such as Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande,The Beatles, Lana Del Rey, Justin Bieber, Billie Eilish, Elton John, and Abba. This not only impacts creators but also the artists themselves because of Tiktok some older songs get a new life and it helps boost sales and promotion of these songs  as well as boosting new songs. Also many artists have had their careers started because of Tiktok and some of them are signed under UMG owned labels.Please come to a settlement with Tiktok and allow fans to share their favorite artists with the world and ensure fair pay for artists and musicians.
