Unity call::

A doctor was assaulted, raped and murdered brutally in her workplace (Hospital) in Kolkata, India.

Whether your are a student of school or a college; whether you belong to a student union or trade union; whether you are a man or a woman;  whether you are young or old; whether you are from metro city or from a village; and whether it matters to you today or not;

you need to unite and raise voice against this barbarism because how you and your sister or daughter is treated by such goons in future depends on how you respond today. 

This fight is about getting justice for the departed soul.

This fight is about crimes against women.

This fight is about dignity of a common man in this democracy.

This fight is about a revolution against the Goondaraj.

This fight is about showing the unity of people in a democracy.

Reasons for Our Call:

A young female budding On Duty doctor, a postgraduate doctor (Dr. Moumita Debnath) is raped and murdered during her 36 hour duty at the RG Kar Medical College and hospital, KOLKATA, India on 9th Aug 2024. The junior doctor was in charge of patients in the chest medicine in the hospital ward was on night duty and was on the premises till 2 am, before going up to the seminar room on the third floor, to take a break and study. She was brutally raped and murdered in a seminar room.Victim shaming and victim blaming was done. Evidence tampering was done.

Its enough. 

We demand justice.✊

If you don't speak today, well, there is nothing I can say.

But we have to speak now. We will not tolerate any assault on a health care professional.

The following investigation conducted by the state police has been widely condemned, and has been accused of covering up evidence and trying to suppress the actual events to cover up the involvement of high-level government officials of the ruling Trinamool Congress Party (TMC), including Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The multiple lapses in the entire process include the transfer of the Principal of RG Kar, Dr. Sandeep Ghosh, within hours of removal from his former post to another medical college, and he wasn't removed again until the Calcutta High Court ordered so. Before the CBI took over investigation, hasty destruction of the crime scene in the name of 'renovation' was undertaken to destroy evidence. The parents of the victim were first misinformed about the incident being a suicide, then were not allowed to see their daughter's body for one last time for three hours. Sanjay, a mentally unstable civic volunteer of the Kolkata Police was hastily arrested as a scapegoat, while evidence suggests that atleast 7-8 people of the hospital affiliated with high-level TMC officials, after which TMC affiliated goons attacked the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital to injure patients, doctors protesting peacefully, and tried to defile the crime once again.

Due to this complete failure of state order and constitutional machinery, with the Calcutta HC itself condemning the the state's failure, we, the people of India, and the true authority of our country, demand the resignation of Chief Minister, Home Minister, Health Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, along with a quick investigation, arrest of all culprits involved in this heinous crimes against humanity, a Fastrack trial and highest possible punishment for all criminals involved.

Susanta Roy of Bhatar, Purba Bardhaman in West Bengal  threatened a lady doctor at Bhatar State General Hospital that if she doesn't treat her fast and properly, he will ensure that she face the same consequences as the lady doctor of RG Kar who was brutally raped and murdered in the RG Kar Hospital Premise recently.

The audacity of people and Lawlessness has reached peak levels in India where anyone knows that they can Abuse, Threaten, Assault , Rape or Murder a doctor without any consequences. 

They know that doctors will never get United to fight against them. 

They know that they will never be punished.

They know hospitals have no security in India.

They know that the situation is not going to change.

They know that doctors will come to the hospital and continue their work even if you abuse, assault, rape or murder another doctor.

They know that if the doctors try to protest, ESMA will be applied on them and they will be made the culprit in public eyes.

They know that doctors will continue to give free services in camps even if you rape and murder another doctor. 

They know that nothing is going to change in India because small minority population of doctors does not matter in the Vote dynamics.

They know that this rape and murder will be forgotten in a few days.  

But what they don't know is that this ends now.

What are our demands?

1. Central Law to protect doctors - Doctor's Protection Act should be stringent just like the Rape laws and Dowry laws.
2. Punish all who assault doctors - with every assault, morale of doctors decreases. We want motivated and empathetic doctors to treat the patients of this country. Assaulters must be punished.
3. Safe working environment where doctors can give their full attention to the patient without fearing assault.
4. Ease of filing FIR by doctor in cases of assault- Make it absolutely easy for the doctor to file an FIR. After the FIR is filed, the doctor should be provided protection
5. Attacks on doctors and HCWs must be Non-bailable offence.
6. Define Administrative negligence - Responsibility of Administration ( Politicians, MLAs, Councillors, etc). Responsibility, accountability, and punishment must be defined.
7. Better security at hospitals with accountability for lapses - Security at all hospitals must be increases including police, bouncers and entry restrictions. There must be accountability at the level of District Magistrate and Local thana Incharge for lapses in security.

West Bengal where the administration (Mamata Banerjee Government) seems to have closed their eyes on assaults on doctors by their vote bank, listed below 👇 

On 7th Jun 2021, there was another brutal attack on Dr. Shiv Shankar Roy and other health care workers assaulted at Pandua Rural Hospital , Hooghly, West Bengal, INDIA after death of a critical patient despite all efforts. No action taken by the authorities for 3 days. Culprits caught only after relentless pressure by doctor organizations.

On 9th April 2022, Doctors working at the Howrah District hospital, Howrah West Bengal were brutally assaulted by patient party of patient known as Kartik Dey. The Assaulter Criminal Rohit Dey arrested. The doctor has sustained fractures and grievous injuries. FIR was lodged against the assaulters only after WBDF ( West Bengal Doctors Forum) intervened. Before that the police very conveniently registered a section 304A against the doctor.

On 12 May 2022, at Coochbehar, West Bengal , after death of a patient Farookh Rehman , relatives of Farookh Rehman assaulted doctor and other health care staff and vandalized the hospital.

...... Many incidents happened in West Bengal which I haven't included 

"SAVE THE DOCTOR… GIVE JUSTICE TO EVERY DOCTOR WHO HAS BEEN ASSAULTED.... AND THE DOCTOR WILL SAVE MANY MORE LIVES FOR THIS NATION"
