Americans for an Active Minimum Wage

The Issue

I made this petition to make sure that hardworking Americans get the fair wages they deserve by asking the Department of Labor to change the minimum wage to an active, self-adjusting number instead of a dollar amount that requires legislation to change.

Right now the US legislature is hemming attempts to increase the federal minimum wage to $15.  And $15 per hour is not even close to being enough!  No American should have to decide whether to eat or pay a utility bill.  And by the time Congress passes anything the cost of living will rise and we will have to wait for the government to argue over the next inadequate minimum wage increase.

Workers need better pay now, and we’re talking about more than just enough to get by. Workers need a FAIR wage that includes money for PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL, and MENTAL well-being. Working-class struggles will disappear if we set the MINIMUM WAGE AS A PERCENTAGE of the highest company salary OR A MULTIPLIER on the cost of living. This way small towns and small businesses pay less and large cities and mega-corporations pay more. That is fair.

Don’t fall for the rhetoric!  There is no proof that raising the minimum wage raises unemployment. However, there are plenty of studies demonstrating how higher pay is directly related to:

- Increased productivity at work

- Lower crime

- Less reliance on government assistance

- And better physical and mental health.

Let’s take the minimum wage out of the government’s hands by making the minimum wage active and self-adjusting.
