Patients, family and community members ask for humane treatment for Chronic Pain Patients.
The Issue
Patients are being "saved to death" by knee jerk attempts at addressing an opioid problem without addressing the reasons people are overdosing. Some are made of good intentions, others are simply to take advantage of human suffering to grab an easy dollar. At the end of the day, mother's are forced to watch children grow up without their hand. Father's have whole families slip away. Brother's and sisters disappear from our lives. Children are left crying for relief that is withheld "for thier own good". All this in the name of addressing a problem none of the restrictive, invasive, expensive measures currently being thrust upon us are achieving. Torturing the chronically ill, taking away the functionality, the livelihoods, the will to live from patients who benefit from Opioid medications will never stop a life from ending prematurely, rather quite the opposite.
People are losing jobs, spouses, children, hobbies, quality of life or quite simply the will to deal with endless pain. People are dying of cardiac and other stress related complications due to Oligoanalgeasia. People are killing themselves to buy a moment's peace. People think: Why fight so that one might delay the time when they are crying in a death bed being told "you may suffer, but at least you aren't an addict!"? We ourselves, our families, our friends and our community members are the best judges for the measure of what a successful treatment method looks like and we must have the ultimate voice in what constitutes that care.
This petition is the first sampling of the breadth and scope of people negativity effected by the anti-opioid mindset plaguing the chronic pain community online. Opioids are not a magic bullet, they do not cure anything; we are not arguing that they do. They are, however, one of many invaluable tools that must be available to those who see benefits from them whenever such medicine can speed recovery, or improve quality of life, through pain relief. The intention of this petition is to 1) See how many people would be interested in a class action lawsuit to restore our medical autonomy if need be. 2) Gage how wide the and deep the damage to the community runs. 3) to set such information in the eye sight of those with more power than we currently have. And 4) To serve as a spring board for further action. Thank you not only for taking the time to improve the lives of people you will never meet or benefit from, but for acting in your own self interest.
