***PLEASE STAND WITH US AND CALL ON THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO EXTEND THE EMERGENCY FOOD BOX PROGRAM. WE CAN NOT TURN OUR BACKS ON THOSE STRUGGLING WITH FOOD INSECURITY DURING THE PANDEMIC***

Food insecurity continues to be a devastating issue for those living near or under the poverty line – especially in the Bronx, the most impoverished borough in NYC.

Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, my office along with Albanian American Open Hands Association, ICNA Relief and other community organizations have worked to combat this critical issue. No program has been more beneficial towards this goal than the USDA’s Farmers to Families Food Box Program. Since last October alone, we have distributed food boxes with approximately 125,000 meals of milk, yogurt, fruits, vegetables and meat to thousands of struggling Bronxites.

Unfortunately, the federal government has decided to end the program at the end of May 2021. If this happens we’ll be forced to shut down our weekly food giveaways.

Letting this program end will be devastating to the tens of thousands of families still struggling with food insecurity – thousands of whom still line up three times a week for our current food giveaways.

Please stand with us and struggling New Yorkers - share and sign this petition calling on the federal government to continue funding the USDA’s Farmers to Families Food Box Program.

While there’s a recovery at hand, for too many, surviving the pandemic is still a daily struggle just to stay afloat.
