The Amazon rainforest can be found in 9 South American countries; Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia and the three Guyanas. It was originally 2.5 million square miles in size, and it was mostly covered with trees and plants, which makes it known as the lungs of the Earth. It produces 20 percent of the oxygen in the world. the rain forest has been a home to more than 750 types of trees and 1500 kinds of plants, in which 25% of all western pharmaceuticals come from rainforest based ingredients, yet less than 1% of the trees and plants in the Amazon have ever been tested by scientists.

But as years goes by, the Amazon rainforest has been suffering due to abuse, illegal logging, deforestation and lack of rehabilitation. Since 1978 over 750,000 square kilometers (289,000 square miles) of Amazon rainforest have been destroyed across Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Bolivia, Venezuela, Suriname, Guyana, and French Guiana. This causes more than 137 species extinct everyday. It was theorized that the Amazon will completely disappear after 40 years even though the governments already create new laws to protect the Amazon, since there are still 1.5 acres per second that was destroyed in the Amazon.

The petitioners created this petition to increase the awareness for the destruction of Amazon Rainforest. It aims to gather support to save and rehabilitate the Amazon, which will also save the remaining species living there. The petition was not only made to catch the attention of the countries surrounding the Amazon but also the attention of the governments across the world since not only them will suffer, we will also suffer because the Amazon functions as a huge converter of Carbon Dioxide. Without the Amazon, and with all the pollution we have, it is possible that many diseases will spread and worse, there will be a struggle in production of oxygen.
