Protect Women and Girls from Online Rape and Abuse – We Can End This Now
Every day, a girl somewhere opens her phone and sees her face on a pornographic video that she never filmed. A woman discovers that her home address has been posted by strangers who threaten to find her children. A teenager receives hundreds of messages saying she will be attacked with acid because someone shared her photo.
This is not just harassment. This is technological rape. This is real violence that follows women from the screen into their homes, their schools, their sleep.
- In Pakistan, last year, more than 18,000 women asked for help after morphed images, rape threats, and blackmail. Most never received justice.
- In India, Nigeria, Mexico, the United States, Kenya, Korea, and almost every country, the story repeats itself.
- One in three women will face serious online abuse in her lifetime. Some will try to take their own lives.
We are mothers who comfort crying daughters at night. We are students who delete our accounts instead of posting our ideas. We are journalists who receive death threats for doing our jobs. We are human beings who simply want to exist online without fear.
This can stop. It must stop.
We, the people of the world, ask for four clear actions that can begin tomorrow:
Social media companies must hire enough trained moderators in every language and remove non-consensual intimate images, deepfakes, and threats within hours, not weeks.
Every country must make deepfake pornography and image-based sexual abuse specific crimes with real punishment.
Build one simple, free, global emergency button that deletes abusive content across all platforms at once and connects victims to help in their own language.
Teach children, especially boys, in every school and place of worship that true honor means protecting women, never harming them online.
The internet belongs to everyone. No one should have to choose between being visible and being safe.
Our bodies are not content. Our fear is not profit. Our lives matter.
Please add your name and stand with every woman and girl who wants to live without terror.
Together we are millions. Together, we will end this.
