Urgent Review Needed: 13 yr old Omar Farouq jailed 10 years after accused of blasphemy.

The Issue

A 13-year-old boy has been sentenced to ten years in prison for allegedly blasphemy. There is no proof that Omar Farouq convicted such an offence but rather hear say of allegedly foul language against Allah during an argument with a friend, according to reports.

The innocent 13 year old child was sentenced to a decade in jail in a Sharia court in Kano State in northwest Nigeria. His conviction has been slammed by child rights agency UNICEF, who has called for his sentence to be reviewed urgently. Kola Alapinni filed an appeal on Omar's behalf earlier this month. He said his punishment is in violation of the African Charter of the Rights and Welfare of a Child and the Nigerian constitution.

This punishment is truly evil and not appropriate for a child in comparison to the horrific abuse many children endure and the victims left with injustice. No child should endure 10 years of their vital life stolen from them and away from family. This is against child welfare rights. The aim is to get 1,000,000 signatures to appeal against this and support UNICEF. Please help sign this petition to bring awareness and free 13 year old Omar Farouq. At 13 the young child’s brain is underdeveloped.

This is not the teachings of the Quran, which does not promote hate and states forgiveness and peace. Allah also says “ will not be merciful to those who are not merciful to mankind ~ Bukhari 7376. Humans have a right to have the freedom of speech and blasphemy is not recognised by Nigerian law. It is inconsistent with the constitution of Nigeria.
