In 2004 India added Sri Harmandar Sahib Ji on to the tentative list but did not progress with an application.At the time the Sikh community raised concerns about lack of consultation and sovereignty. The Indians were asked to address the concerns by UNESCO. 2. The tentative list has to be refreshed every 10 years by the nation state.India refreshed it but did not remove Sri Harmandar Sahib Ji.The reason for this could be that the objections were simply not followed through in a sustained manner by the Indian sikh institutes like Akali Dal,SPGC,DGPC. The people who complained in 2004 perhaps also did to follow through to the end. 3. UNESCO has confirmed to the SIkh Council UK yesterday (29.04.2015) in writing that there is no current application and nothing is being considered in relation to Sri Harmandar Sahib Ji 4 UNESCO has also confirmed today in writing to the Sikh Council UK that only India as a nation can amend the tentative list. This means that everyone needs to write to Modi,Home Minister and the consulates asking for the removal from the tentative list. 5. The petitions should be submitted to UNESCO for they demonstrate the Sikh Community's outright rejection to the nomination should it ever be progressed. 6. Every one should be pressuring SGPC,DGPC and Akali Dal to formally write to Modi and the Home Minister to formally remove our sacred site from the list.The sikh /Indian media needs to be activated.
