Hello, friends and supporters! I wanted to update you. I have left a voicemail for Erin Wendell, global communications director at Under Armour, and also sent her an email. Hopefully she will be back in touch with me soon to clarify everything. Below is the text of the email I sent her. Again, thank you all for signing this petition and supporting environmental justice and corporate responsibility. Please remember to share the link to the petition and encourage your friends and family to sign. *************** Ms. Wendell, My name is Kelsey Brickl, and I am one of Under Armour's many loyal customers who were outraged to see video of Josh Bowmar using a spear to kill a bear in Alberta. As I'm sure you're aware, Canadian government agencies were swift to condemn the action and are taking steps to make that hunting method illegal. Many of Under Armour's customers were dismayed to see such an obvious and close connection between Under Armour and Josh Bowmar, his wife Sarah Bowmar, and their company Bowmar Fitness. In response to discovering this connection, two movements are currently underway. One is a petition to Under Armour that currently has around 2,500 signatories and is rapidly gaining momentum. (You may find that petition here, if you care to read it) The other movement is a call for a widespread boycott of all Under Armour products. As an alumna of the University of Notre Dame, I am currently in contact with my fellow alumni and Fighting Irish sports fans, along with various university administrators, to encourage a complete boycott of Notre Dame Under Armour materials. I would love to be able to buy an Under Armour product during this Notre Dame football season, but first some clarification needs to happen. On Under Armour's Facebook page, the social media manager's response to inquiries about sponsorship of the Bowmars has been that "Josh Bowmar is not an Under Armour sponsored athlete." However, a large body of evidence says otherwise. Attached you will find images of official Under Armour social media as well as images from the Bowmars that clearly document a formal business relationship of some kind. There is a discrepancy in what Under Armour's social media team is telling concerned customers and what we can see with our own eyes. The semantics of "sponsored," "affliated," "part of the team," etc do not matter. We need clarification from Under Armour on what the exact nature of the company's business relationship with Josh Bowmar, Sarah Bowmar, and Bowmar Fitness has been in the past and what it will be in the future. We need reassurance that we can resume purchasing Under Armour materials without giving our money to a company that is associated in any way with Josh and Sarah Bowmar.
