At 12 noon today, 4,057 people have signed a petition in just 48hrs, calling on Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWAC) not to hand over land on top of Chester's World famous Amphitheatre to developers for the next 150 years. The petition goes on to say that they want to see the southern side of the amphitheatre unearthed and turned into a World class tourist attraction, which will help increase footfall for local shops and businesses. a Natural England spokesperson confirm yesterday that the unearthed part of the Amphitheatre did indeed contain "Nationally important archeological remains". Yesterday it was revealed by the ex leader of CWAC Council Mike Jones on Twitter that English Heritage had themselves told CWAC that they would allow the demolition of Dee House if it was of no use, noting that repair works to the building would likely cause more damage to the Amphitheatre beneath than demolition would. Next week a group of up to 40 local businesses will send an Open Letter to the Head of Cheshire West and Chester Council calling for a period of public enquiry and consultation to take into account the views expressed by the thousands of members of the public, the majority of which are voting electorate from the city itself, who have signed the petition.
