The ministry Of Information has proved once again that it has no clue how to handle movies. With the reasonless banning of Barbie last year, and now doing the same thing with Wicked. They obviously are aiming to censor and suppress art and entertainment. We need to fight against this censorship of culture and cinema.

Despite the rest of the gulf states advancing in film and entertainment, Kuwait is still stuck in the past with old fashioned ideals and traditions. This isn’t just about wicked, it’s about cinema and its rich history! They are stripping away a pillar of modern society and culture. And in result, the Kuwaiti citizens miss out on important cultural events (such as Barbenheimer).

Many Kuwaitis have new anxiously awaiting for this movie where since it was officially announced in 2022. Especially since world renowned pop star Ariana Grande is starring in it alongside broadway legend Cynthia Erivo. And not to mention that Wicked is an iconic musical that has been ingrained in pop culture for decades at this point. And this is the first movie adaptation of the beloved musical on the big screen. So to say it’s been highly anticipated would be a massive understatement. And now that it’s banned many people are frustrated and angry at this senseless erasure. To forbid us from watching it is to forbid us from experiencing a phenomenon in film and music.
