Hello supporters,
We have had an official response from the House of Commons regarding our petition, despite an interest to initially help us with our campaign and connecting us to the Department for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport as well as the Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy.
The Government has decided it isn't responsible for designating days of remembrance and has rejected our petition, but we have a plan to make Freedom Day happen, and we want you to be apart of it.
We plan to get our remembrance day 1 August 2020 trending on Twitter using the hashtag #FreedomDay.
The power resides with us the people, and it was the people who commemorated Juneteenth in the US, and the people trended Black Pound Day here in the UK. We have the power to make sure those who suffered 400 years of oppression, are never forgotten with due recognition and commemoration.
We only finished paying compensation to slave traders in 2015 through our taxes, so this legacy is as relevant today as it was then when the Slavery Abolition Act was passed in 1833, let's make a stand together on the right side of history.
