"We're all in this together" - that's the lie the UK government are telling us with regards to the pandemic. But you don't have to look hard to see the North is being hit so much harder than the South. 

It's because of the government's failure to act. Because of Thatcher's assault on the North and the successive governments who were complicit and failed to address the divide that grew worse when our industries were gutted.

We in the North are being punished by policies made in London.

Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, put it plainly when he said the government are treating us as 'second-class citizens' as they enforce a punishing lockdown in the North without the proper support for people and businesses. They're willing to sacrifice our jobs and livelihoods, to protect London.

This government doesn't govern for us. That is why we need to follow in the footsteps of Scotland, and demand independence for the North. We need a North that can govern itself, protect itself, that isn't bound by the appalling politics of Westminster that value profit over human life. And to do that we need an Independence Referendum for the North.
