My friend Rob Spray died whilst in Bulgaria. He was there to celebrate our friend’s birthday by watching England's Euro 2020 qualifying match. He died in police custody - and we have been left in limbo not getting help to find out what happened.

We still don’t know how he died or why he was in custody. That’s why we’re calling for the Foreign Office to hold their own independent investigation. We’ve heard that there are 10 witness statements and CCTV - none of which has been shared with British authorities.

Rob was a British citizen and it’s their job to find out what happened. He died abroad but that doesn’t mean our authorities can wash their hands of him - he deserves a proper investigation.

I met Rob over 13 years ago. He was the nicest lad - our gentle giant. We worked together in transport and watched football together - he was a West Bromwich Albion fan. In his honour all our friends have bought a shirt with Spray 32 on the back - we will all wear these at his funeral.

His family are suffering. Rob’s father is battling with prostate cancer and now the prospect of not finding out how his son died.
