Estate agents and landlords are not complying with law change on renting with pets

Estate agents and landlords are not complying with law change on renting with pets

The Issue

Under the new Model Tenancy Agreement, announced by Housing Minister Rt Hon Christopher Pincher MP, landlords will no longer be able to issue blanket bans on pets (28 January 2021).

However, in my search to find a house to rent, I have had many landlords and/or estate agents still outright refuse my dog without justified reason. Many estate agents are not upholding their landlords to this change in law and/or not acknowledging the law change in the first instance. This is still resulting in an unfair discrimination for renters with pets and needs to be addressed.

Therefore, I am petitioning that UK parliament find a way to not only make landlords and estate agents more aware of this law change, but to hold them liable for upholding it, as well as placing fines on those who don't.
