Dear Supporter,
Our co-director, Jennifer Nadel, together with Labour MP, Kim Leadbeater, the sister of murdered MP, Jo Cox, our co-director, Jennifer Nadel and our Parliamentary Lead, Anya Sizer, recently spoke at a fringe event at the Labour Party Conference, where she addressed the urgent need for a more civil and compassionate politics. Among the challenges she highlighted—climate catastrophe, global conflict, and deepening inequality—she also pointed to a critical issue: the crisis of trust in politics.
The Harm of Dishonesty in Politics
Civility is where we must begin, but lies and dishonesty in politics are eroding the foundation of any civil discourse. When politicians deceive the public, it not only deepens divisions but also undermines the trust essential for healthy debate and problem-solving. Without honesty, politics becomes a battlefield, driven by conflict and manipulation, not by solutions.
Civility and Truth as the Way Forward
Civility is not just about being polite. It is about respecting truth, listening to others, and building a political culture rooted in compassion and respect. Jennifer made it clear in her speech: without truth, civility has no foundation. Only by holding politicians accountable for dishonesty can we restore the trust that’s been lost and create a space where real change can happen.
What Can You Do?
For several years, in partnership with the Jo Cox Foundation, we’ve championed a Civility Pledge for election candidates. Now, we’re expanding it to include everyone engaged in politics.
By signing the pledge, you can help us take a stand against dishonesty and create a more respectful and truthful political environment.
Support Our Work
Jennifer’s powerful message is already inspiring others to join this movement. If you can, a one-off donation will help us keep the momentum going. But if now isn’t the right time, we deeply appreciate your ongoing support.
Thank you for being part of this vital cause. Together, we can restore truth and transform politics for the better.
With warmest wishes,
Jennifer
