Dear supporter,
We know what we’re up against.
We’ve just come out of an intense local election campaign which saw more lies and mistruths used to try and sway voters.
In the London Mayoral election, the Conservative campaign published a video using stock footage of New York City while making claims about the English capital.
Labour too have got in on the act with an ad claiming that Rishi Sunak doesn’t want people to have a pension.
This kind of behaviour damages trust, undermines democracy, and is deeply disrespectful to supporters of all parties and none.
But with your support, we can put an end to it.
Next month the Senedd, Wales’ parliament, will once again debate a proposal from Adam Price to ban their members from deliberately lying.
This proposal has been built on the work of Compassion in Politics and is now backed by members of Welsh Labour, Conservatives, Liberal Democrats, and Plaid Cymru.
If it passes it will make Wales the first ever country to make it illegal for politicians to wilfully lie to their voters. This would set the standard for other parliaments - including Westminster - to follow.
This progress is down to your support. We know 7 in 10 people back the ban and over 200,000 people have already signed our petition calling for such a law.
If you want to see us bring this bill home, and push it out to every single corner of the UK, to rebuild trust in our democracy, please consider making a contribution to the campaign
Kind regards
Matt
