Dear Supporters
Last week Cottontails was invited to 10 Downing Street to discuss rabbit welfare with Lord Randall of Uxbridge, Special Adviser to the Prime Minister on the Environment. Lord Randall was very generous with his time and very interested to learn about our campaign to end the use of rabbit hutches and cages. Because of Brexit, he admitted that rabbit welfare is not a primary concern for Defra at present, so we will not be launching our campaign on the Government's website for the time being. Instead we are asking everyone to help the bunnies by promoting our petition on change.org as this will help to raise awareness with the media, especially in the lead-up to Easter.
Be reassured that we are not standing still and we are reaching out to other rabbit rescues and welfare organisations to work together on a related project so watch this space!
We would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to the family of author and illustrator Leonard Weisgard for the use of his wonderful artwork to help promote our campaign and also to author and illustrator Bob Graham, who created the illustration at the top of this update especially for Cottontails. Bob has also donated the original artwork and sent us a personal message to support our campaign. Thank you all for your kindness!
We hope you and your rabbits are enjoying the unseasonably warm weather in the UK, everything seems better in the sunshine!
Thank you again for your support, we couldn't do it without you!
Best wishes from everyone at Cottontails
