Making Men and Women Safe Online

The Issue

Dear Home Secretary,

Muslim Marriage Services is the world's only Certified Social Enterprise Muslim matrimonial brand with a focus on digital security, activism and social impact.

We have just launched a revolutionary matrimonial service for Muslims so that they can find their spouse within the UK rather than going back to their countries of origin and engaging in sham marriages with foreigners who could use them for their British passports.

In order to do this we have created an online and offline marriage site to help Muslims across the UK and beyond to network online to find their life partner and to make it safe for men and women. We intend to verify IDs by making it mandatory for all our clients to undergo Yoti Digital ID verification by providing government issued ID as per UK GDPR guidelines.

Developing countries like India have the world's most advanced ID system known as Aadhaar whereby all clients wishing to join matrimonial services must upload or provide in person their government approved ID by law.

Aadhaar is a verifiable 12-digit identification number issued by UIDAI to the residents of India for free of cost. If a developing country such as India can have such a verifiable ID system, there is no reason why a developed country like the UK can’t have a similar system in place to protect ALL men and women of ALL faiths seeking to find someone in their faith on a nationwide network that connects people of their faith in the UK online.

This ID verification system would also significantly reduce the number of fake profiles being created, and therefore keeping men and women safe online.

We will also have an option to upload additional documents to achieve "Trusted Profile" status, thereby, going above and beyond digital ID checks.

Making men and women feel safe online means they would be more likely to join national networking sites and find someone in their faith within the UK rather than bringing in people from abroad of their faith which could lead to British citizens being used for their passports.

We hope that the Home Office can see the benefits of creating an ID system that encourages people to join online networking sites that bring together people resident within the UK enabling them to find their life partner within the UK.
