Me and Bo recently went into Penny Bridge primary school to talk to the kids about how pollution in Windermere is threatening the extinction of the otters.
What’s happened since then?
Well the kids are now writing to George Eustice and Natural England asking for Windermere to be designated as an SAC (special area of conservation) specifically to protect the otter from a dying lake!
We have lost otters in the Uk before because we didn’t protect them from pollution and now the nations best known lake is dying. Arctic char, salmon, trout and invertebrates are ALL in decline so the otters food is disappearing and sewage discharges are threatening the health of these beautiful animals. Windermere lake has been neglected and If action to protect it isn’t done soon we will have a dead lake.
