UK government - Ratification of Global Ocean Treaty

The Issue

I recently saw the David Attenborough film ‘Ocean’.  I recommend it to everyone interested in the environment and the world we live in.

I learned:

1. Our seas have the capacity to recover from over fishing, deep sea trawling and pollution. This is needed to protect our planet as well as the communities that rely on the sea.
2.  There is an urgent need for governments to take action on this and scientists advise we should protect at least 30% of the world’s ocean by 2030 to avoid irreversible destruction to marine life and coastal livelihoods.
3. A proposal to protect 30% of the worlds oceans is on the agenda of the UN Ocean Conference in June 2025. The clock is ticking to meet this goal as 60 countries need to ratify the proposal.

I have now learned that the UK government has delayed introducing the legislation needed to ratify the Treaty.  More information is available on the Greenpeace website  https://www.greenpeace.org.uk/resources/uk-ratification-of-the-global-ocean-treaty-briefing-for-policymakers/

Please sign and share this petition to show governments we care that this happens as soon as possible.
