I am afraid the answer is because it is so much more difficult to find a solution that can support the self-employed – it is a very wide reaching group of people, with wildly varying needs.

Prior to my election to Parliament in December I was self-employed with my own business for 15 years, so I have every sympathy.

The issues you have outlined in your email have been flagged to me by a number of constituents and I have made enquiries with the Treasury who have assured me that support for these groups of workers is being actively considered and I am hopeful of an announcement from the Treasury as soon as possible. I have been in contact with Ltd companies in my constituency and the self-employed who having earnings over the threshold so I am aware of the problems they are facing and I will continue to represent their pressing concerns with the Government.
