As a current Institute of Directors member (https://www.iod.com I requested an update on what the IOD was doing to support directors of their own Ltd. They have confirmed they are in constant communication with that robot Alok Sharma in regards to our struggles...

We’ve been pushing hard with Government on extending support to company owner directors. We’ve called for those directors that are able provide a clear paper trail to be able to make a furlough claim of 80% of their monthly income including dividends subject to tax, up to a £2,500 per month cap, ​to put them on par with support available for employees and the self-employed.

Jon has raised this directly with Alok Sharma and the Policy Team are engaged in conversations with officials on how this can be achieved. We’ve been working closely with other trade associations to put a proposal with a feasible mechanism directly to HMRC.

All sounds nice and dandy but what we really need is finally some clarity on exactly what director duties are covered and which are not or better still confirmation that directors of their own Ltd CAN work and not lose their support if they do (just like self-employed folk).

One director duty is to "promote the success of the company" and so can that include networking? Taking customer calls? Improving ones website? ++

We desperately need a journalist to directly ask the question to the Sharma-bot, the Chancellor or one of the big cheeses at HMRC to finally clear up all this vagueness.
