This is HUGE news — we did it!

The government has announced that all children living in poverty will now be eligible for free school meals. This is an amazing moment for young people across the country — it is exactly what we have been campaigning for, and you helped make this happen.

Three years ago, we launched a petition to bring young voices straight to those in power. Since then, we’ve pushed through four Prime Ministers and six Education Secretaries. Our message never changed: every child deserves a decent lunch at school.

I was 18 when I launched this campaign. Since then, I’ve championed my peers at Bite Back to continue their strides in calling for change. I cheered on Yusuf and Carrera earlier this year when they met with Minister Stephen Morgan MP and laid it bare — what it’s really like growing up without the support you deserve.

And now? That kind of determination and teamwork just made real change happen. 😎 

To all of you who signed the petition, wrote to your MP or shared any of our content online with your friends and family — THANK YOU. We couldn’t have done it without you ♥️🙏 This win is yours too.

The government has also promised to review the School Food Standards — to make sure school food is actually healthy and nutritious. You can bet we’ll be watching that closely. 👀

I’m proud that this campaign was the start in making change to the system, but I know there is more to do! There’s an incredible bunch of young people at Bite Back ready for the next phase to make our school meals great. As I pass on the baton, there’s something you can do too…
