NASP suffers from cabin fever!

In this weekend's update instead of the chaotic DVSA who've been keeping a low profile recently, its NASP (your trade association - as we keep being told) that's finally flipped.

Belatedly jumping on the bandwagon for theory test extensions a year later, they've written to the Department for Transport suggesting that the theory test extension issue could be eliminated by ADIs just signing off pupils!

I don't seem to remember any consultation with members over this but remember they're only "your trade association" when it suits them, usually they follow their own agenda. 

Of course you must wonder how ADIs signing off theory knowledge could be standardised, especially considering that most pupils who've passed an actual theory test seem to have scant knowledge of it a week later!

Perhaps every ADI could be issued a standard set of questions to ask the pupil - in other words just like a theory test then?

Or what steps could be taken to avoid the small minority that would just sign the pupil off anyway.

I know, maybe there could be an online booking system so the pupil gets assigned to another ADI, oh in other words like the booking system we already have. 

What about PDIs would they be allowed to sign pupils off? After all they will have passed the Part One much more recently than an ADI so according to the DVSAs recent responses,  their theory test knowledge will be much more up to date. Maybe only PDIs should be allowed to sign pupils off in this case?

The DVSA must have fallen of the chair laughing when they read it. 

Speaking of the DVSA, still no news from NASP on the reply to their much-vaunted letter to the CEO.  Perhaps they think we've forgotten? it certainly appears the DVSA have!

Finally "your trade association" don't seem to have made any press releases to members about any response to the DVSAs statement that the 47% pass rate is the fault of ADIs, because none of us know what we're doing.

No doubt NASP is too busy putting online courses and workshops together to teach us what we're supposed to be doing so they can sell them to us over lockdown. No doubt they'll be a DVSA Approved course in Driving Test Assessment at a bargain price soon!
