DVSA Blunder into another crisis

Three weeks ago, we said in our update "DVSA fiddles while the industry burns." that it was common knowledge within the DVSA that a second national lockdown was coming in January and most of the staff were looking forward to an extended Christmas Holiday.

We called on the DVSA (unlike NASP who appear to have little clue what's going on) to release its plans on how it intends to deal with many weeks more of postponed tests and we were met with a stony silence. Could this be because like usual they have no clue what they are going to do?

We demand:

1) Immediate extension to theory tests. The DVSAs excuse that this is matter of road safety is nonsense. It was done without issue in Northern Ireland and the DVSA also claimed continuing with Standards Checks was a matter of road safety, until it suited them to say it wasn't and halt them.

2) Immediate suspension of the two-year period for PDIs and trainee licenses to be issued automatically on expiry until three attempts at the Part 3 have been made or normal test provision has been resumed.

3) A full complete and independent enquiry after COVID into removing provision for driving tests and ADI registration from the DVSA.
