UF Solar Panels on Residential Buildings

UF Solar Panels on Residential Buildings

The Issue

Hey Gators,

We all know that climate change isn’t some far-off issue anymore—it’s here, and it’s affecting everything from the weather to our economy to public health. And while it’s easy to feel powerless, there are real changes we can push for, right here at UF, that would make a difference.

The University of Florida has already taken steps toward becoming more sustainable, which is awesome. But there’s one big, obvious move we haven’t made yet: putting solar panels on all the residential buildings on campus.

Think about it—UF sits in the Sunshine State. We have sun almost every single day. Why aren’t we using that to help power our dorms and student apartments?

Installing solar panels would cut our energy use, lower emissions, and save money over time. It would also show that UF is serious about leading on sustainability—not just in the classroom or in marketing, but in the actual way we live on campus.

Students care about this. Faculty care. Future Gators are looking at universities and asking: “Are they walking the walk on climate action?” This is our chance to say yes.

We’re asking the University to commit to a solar-powered future by putting solar panels on all campus housing. It’s a smart move for the planet, for the university’s budget, and for everyone who calls this campus home.

Let’s show what it really means to be part of the Gator Nation. Let’s lead.
