The UC Riverside campus should take action to help limit the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). Although there are currently no confirmed cases on campus (as of 3/9/2020), there have already been 2 confirmed coronavirus cases in Riverside County. Three new cases were also confirmed in Coachella Valley (as of 2:45pm 3/09/2020). In addition, Riverside County Health Officer Dr. Cameron Kaiser declared a local public health emergency on Sunday (3/8/2020) amid news of the county's first locally acquired case of COVID-19.

UC Riverside administration should not delay taking action any further. The campus should take proactive steps that will help protect the community, by canceling all in-person instruction through Spring Break and moving instruction online. Stanford University, University of Southern California and UC Berkeley have all already begun this process and many other California schools/universities are moving to do the same.
