Hello, animal advocates! The Humane League recently launched a milestone campaign: taking on one of the world’s top meat producers, Tyson Foods, for its blatant neglect of animals, people, and public health. And we need your help to spread the word!
Over the past few weeks, thousands of workers at these companies have contracted coronavirus due to the lack of adequate protection such as PPE, paid sick leave, and even proper social distancing protocols. Employees have died. The backlash against these companies has been swift and powerful, even leading Tyson to take out full-page ads in The New York Times and The Washington Post to “address” the failing food system—the broken, abusive, and oppressive system which they created.
This disregard for public health may not come as a surprise to many of us, however. For decades, Tyson Foods has perpetuated immense suffering as it continuously prioritized profits over doing the right thing for the animals, the planet, and the people. But now we're saying enough is enough.
It's time to hold this giant meat company accountable for the abuses it inflicts on its workers and animals. Please join us by taking the following actions:
- Action 1 - We can’t do this without your support, so please sign this petition and share it with your network! The more signatures we can gather, the more likely these companies will pay attention to our demands, and result in real changes.
-
Action 2 - Comment on Tyson’s latest Facebook post and call them out for misleading the public. Use the following copy as inspiration for your own comment.
Example: @TysonFoods, I just saw the www.WorkingAtTyson.com site. How can you put your own employees and communities at risk like that, and all for the sake of meat, which is NOT essential? Plus your products come from filthy factory farms that abuse animals! I'm done purchasing any of your products. -
Action 3 - Submit a contact form to let Tyson Foods know that you demand real change.
Example script: I recently saw www.WorkingAtTyson.com, which has disturbing accounts about how Tyson continues to knowingly put its own employees in harm’s way. You may be publicly claiming to be doing all you can to support workers and communities, but we consumers are not buying it. People have died on your watch! Plus, you also operate cruel factory farms that further endanger public health AND animal welfare. It’s very clear to the public that Tyson only cares about profits. It’s time to DO BETTER!
With your help, we can make this world a better, safer, and healthier place for all of Earth’s inhabitants. Thank you for your commitment to ensuring these employees and animals receive the basic rights that they all deserve!
Bonus action: Please sign and share this petition against another huge meat producer, Smithfield Foods, too!
