Immediate Removal of Trump from Office

Immediate Removal of Trump from Office

The Issue

We, the Building Trades for Workers’ Democracy, unite with  North American Building Trades’ Union (NABTU) Sean McGarvey’s call for President Donald J. Trump to resign. If Trump does not voluntarily step down, we demand that our elected politicians and Trump's cabinet to utilize the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from his office or be considered co-conspirators to a fascist coup attempt to dismantle our Republic.

We believe it is necessary for the unionized labor movement to rally to the defense of the republican form of government against would-be dictators. This coup was only possible because of those very forces in our government that have been the hardest crusaders of the anti-Labor agenda. Their power is possible because our Republic has historically given advantage to anti-Labor political forces, from slavery till present day.

The only means to defeat these forces is to strengthen our Republic by its transformation and reformation in a way that buries these conspirators of fascism and extends citizenship as a matter of service and labor, as Workers’ Democracy.

It is clear that the undue power and privilege that gives the Right to Work, Neo-Confederacy its legs gives the ability for Silver Spoon Con Men like Trump to exist to begin with. His existence as a private dictator in our industry is itself an extension a Republic that has allowed for too long for Capital to become before Labor.  This embarrassment should never have had the potential to be President.

We call on all of our elected officials, particularly those allies of Labor, to do everything they can and must do to remove him from office. We call on them to do Democracy the service of formally arresting Donald Trump when his term is over. We call on them to further investigate and remove all those co-conspirators among elected office and other institutions of state including the military and police. It is not enough to go after the deluded fools that acted as useful idiots for the would-be Dictator, but the would-be Dictator himself and his co-conspirators.

In the wake of President Trumps incitement of a mob of domestic terrorists that  attacked the U.S. Capitol  North American Building Trades Union President McGarvey issued the following statement :

WASHINGTON, DC – Jan. 6, 2021 — Today, North America’s Building Trades Unions’ (NABTU) President Sean McGarvey released the following statement in response to the mob of domestic terrorists that attacked the U.S. Capitol building during the electoral college certification proceedings:

“Today’s despicable events are unprecedented, and, as we have all seen, are extremely dangerous. North America’s Building Trades Unions call on President Trump to immediately step down and transfer power per the Constitution and the Presidential Succession Act of 1947. If he refuses, the Cabinet must immediately invoke the 25th amendment to remove the President. Any less action by the Cabinet, and America should consider them all co-conspirators.

“We also call on Senators Cruz and Hawley to immediately resign along with the twelve other U.S. Senators and the 140 House members objecting to the Electoral College certification. They all must step down immediately.

“We call on a bipartisan commission to investigate and identify all planners, funders, and coordinators of this attempted coup and refer them to prosecution by the U.S. Justice Department, and further for them to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

“If these actions are not taken immediately, in anticipation of what is already one of the worst domestic episodes in our country’s history, things could get much worse over the next 14 days very quickly. Thus, we urge all law-abiding Americans to stand up and demand the same to protect our precious democracy from tyrants and thugs.”
