My family in China recently went to the prison to see my mom, but the prison authorities twice denied their request. In August, they said that visiting was not allowed due to a system upgrade. In September, prison authorities told my family that my mom had violated the rules and was emotionally unstable, so they would not allow my family to see her. My dad asked them when the family would be able to see her. They replied that they had no idea.

We don't know what has happened to my mom. Based on previous experiences, the reasonable guess is that the guards kept trying to force my mom to renounce her spiritual beliefs, but my mom wouldn’t yield. We believe they denied our family visitation to pressure and punish her.

After learning of my mom’s current situation, my U.S. Congressman, Dennis Ross, kindly sent a letter to Chinese President Xi regarding our concerns for my mom. Congressman Ross’s office also helped me pass on my Change.org petition to the Department of State. We haven’t heard anything back yet.
